Success for disability campaign

Tesco have given way to installing a new electric door in their Belper branch thanks to a campaign put forward by a member of Disability Derbyshire. The member goes on to explain their struggle and how Chesterfield Law aided the cause.

"For nearly ten years I have been asking Tesco, on the corner of my street in Belper, to provide electric doors as I can't get in or out of the shop.

I had no success. Then Chesterfield Law Centre came in to the Disability Derbyshire office in Ripley to give a talk on the Human Rights Act. They told us how they'd received funding to fight discrimination cases under the Act. Over the past few months Tony Ashwell of Chesterfield Law Centre has represented my case to Tesco. We heard the news just before Christmas but today this Equality Success story is there for all to see - shiny, new electric doors for all to see and use!

This is wonderful for me and my community but it's also a success story that demonstrates how strong we are when we work together."
