What is a direct payment?

Direct payments are made by the local council. They're for people who are assessed as needing help from social services, and prefer to arrange and pay for their own care and support services. This is instead of receiving them directly from the local council.

You must be able to give your consent to receive direct payments. You must be able to manage them even if you need help to do this on a day-to-day basis.

More information about Direct Payments can be found here on the Directgov website and here on the Derbyshire County Council website. A copy of the Derbyshire County Council guide to Direct Payments can be downloaded below.

How do I get a direct payment?

If you already have services from Derbyshire County Council, speak to your worker and ask about getting a Direct Payment. This could be your Care Manager, Social Worker, Community Care Worker, Domiciliary Service Organiser, Day Service Worker or in mental health services your Care Co-ordinator.

If you don't have services from the County Council at the moment telephone 08456 058 058. Ask for an assessment. At the assessment, let them know you would like a Direct Payment.
